We believe that the real qualities of a satisfied and successful life are not just education but also appreciation of values such as truth, honesty and contentment. Giving importance to external growth - wealth and richness - leaving behind inner development often leads to an imbalance in life. Nowadays, when true values of life have narrowed down, become skewed, ignored and misunderstood, a tremendous need has been felt for value education to be integrated with the school curriculum.

In recent years, a tremendous need has been felt for value education to be integrated with the school curriculum. Even some forty years ago, this aspect of life was imparted to every growing child in India through "grandma's tales" and by the very lifestyle of families and communities. But with the influence of modern lifestyles, and the breakdown of the joint family system, India has witnessed a tangible erosion of its cultural strength and ethical base.

Value-education is a fine art of moulding the consciousness of students towards noble and fine living. Value education encompasses the traditional values of moral science that any society wishes to imbibe. Hence value education includes not only universal values such as truth, love, courage and faith but also socially-relevant values such as self-reliance, civic consciousness, environmental awareness, patriotism and tolerance.

Our value-education classes deliberate on different aspects of our ancient culture in terms of personal, moral, spiritual, family and social values and how these can enrich life. Virtues of integrity; love for others; how to develop positive thinking; how moral values can get reinforced; belief in natural justice; good family values and how best a person can move ahead in life by focusing on core values are aptly unfolded.

While regular academic education is "conceptual understanding" aimed at economic self-reliance, value education aims at "transformation" and emotional self-reliance. Thus value education complements and completes academics, subtly guiding students to become useful and supportive members of the society.

The supplementary involvement of parents is vital for the success of this value education. Thus the unique, secular, social and ethical needs of today's students are met, thereby enabling them to blossom into courageous, morally strong and confident citizens of tomorrow.

Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandaji believed that if students are encouraged regularly to think positively and are tuned to view the world as a whole, it would then make each student unfold into a gentle blossoming personality ever ready to face the challenges of life courageously and successfully. This vision of Pujya Gurudev materialized into a comprehensive educational programme called the Chinmaya Vision Programme.

The Chinmaya Vision Programme (CVP) is an educational programme that judiciously integrates academics (modern education system), culture, and value education (ancient Indian education system). Chinmaya Vision Programme

The Chinmaya Vision Programme is identified under four heads:

Integrated Development

This aspect helps the students to become -

  • physically fit and well groomed
  • emotionally balanced
  • intellectually alert and creative
  • spiritually awakened

Indian Culture

The students are given wide exposure to various aspects of the Indian culture through epics, puranas and stories from our rich tradition. The values thus nurtured become embedded in the minds of students and create a holistic vision and an ennobling attitude.


Students learn about the glory of Bharat. They discover the following astonishing facts of India:

  • unsung patriots, scientists and sages
  • unrecognized discoveries of Indians made thousands of years ago

Thus, our students feel proud and stand bound by their love for the nation.

Universal Outlook

This aspect of CVP is based on the principle of Sanatana Dharma that is based on the idea that the whole world is one family. (Vasudeiva Kudumbakkam)

Hence, students are exposed to the cultures and philosophies of other nations too. CVP highlights the positive aspects of other cultures that complement the ethos of Indian culture and its tradition. Thus, our students cultivate a vast vision that the whole world is one family from a young age.

Thus Chinmaya Vision Programme transforms our Vidyalaya into a true vidya - alaya (temple of learning).

GARDEN OF LIFE (Standards 1 to 9)

'Garden of life'- a value based programme for standards 6 to 9 with a period every week for each class helps everyone feel good about themselves as young persons, citizens of a wonderful country and children of one of the world's oldest and richest cultures and residents of this beautiful country. Its specialties are

  • Wonderful themes in a simple language.
  • Practical knowledge.
  • It gives importance to nature and its uniqueness.
  • Each value is introduced with a brainstorming session.
  • Stories, songs, passages that help students imbibe values of patriotism, right attitude, pride in heritage and environmental awareness.
  • It fulfils our Pujya Gurudev's vision: Do the best and leave the rest.

PURNA VIDYA (Standards 3 to 9)

Purna Vidya - Vedic heritage teaching programme, guided by His Holiness Swami Dayananada, ensures that children are rooted to this great culture. In Swamiji's words, Purna Vidya is a mine of information and insight about the culture, religion and spiritual wisdom of vedic India and its people. While learning all about vedic heritage, we can learn also about the beauty of intelligent living and growing to be a wholesome person in life. We introduce this package from VI to IX standards with one period each class every week. Children actively take part in these classes and in related projects also.

Implication of Purna Vidya in education:

  • Purna Vidya is a value-based cultural education for children.
  • It helps one understand the rich cultural heritage of India keeping with Vedic Vision.
  • Stories from epics are narrated in a coherent and interesting way.
  • The programme focuses on topics related to values, religious discipline, culture and vedic knowledge.
  • The teaching of Purna Vidya creates "Students with a difference" who go out and create a "Society with a difference". This benefits the nation and the world at large.

  • Bhajans on Mondays, Wednesdays (Junior School) and Fridays (Senior School) form an integral part of our school life.
  • Bhajans control the mind and focus it on the Divine.
  • Children sing bhajans with love and devotion.
  • Bhajans confer great joy to both students and teachers who sing them and to those who listen to them.

Sixteen step puja

Sixteen step puja Puja is one of the most beautiful ways to bring out the devotee within oneself and establish a relationship with Ishwara. Puja is called kayika karma, an action involving one's limbs. It also includes speech and mental action in the form of chanting and thinking of the Lord. The body, mind, and speech are all involved in a puja. The forms, colors, fragrances and sounds of various items in worship arrest one's mind and aid in invoking devotion in oneself.

Students of standards 5 to 9 perform the sixteen-step puja in the month of March when their seniors take their board exams. They devotedly perform the sixteen-step puja to their favourite God to express their gratitude to God for all they have received in life and also for their seniors to come out in flying colours in their public examination.


Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda said , "the Bhagavad Geeta is the 'Handbook for everyday living' ".

The wonderful conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna at the warfront - the Bhagvad Geetha, teaches the youth of today the skills to face the world with gusto, manliness, sublimity and honesty in making decisions without getting bogged down by daily tensions. In our school, we train our students from standards 1 to 9 and 11 to chant Geetha.

Pujya Guruji, Swami Tejomayananda explains the grand vision behind this project as "Chant - Study - Know - Live".

Students of our school are trained in chanting slokas from their first year of entry into the school and complete all the 18 chapters by standard IX. Geetha Chanting Competition conducted by the Chinmaya Mission motivates children to learn to chant the Bhagavad Geetha and ultimately bring in this philosophy into their lives. They participate in the chanting competition every year and proudly reach higher levels of competition and win prizes.
